What Baby Shoes
Are Best For Little
Feet?
Article
brought to you by InfantsBabiesToddlers.com
Times have
definitely
changed! Not so
long ago, when our
mothers had newborns in their arms, the medical recommendation was that
babies
required ankle or arch support to learn to walk. That
couldn’t be further from
today’s recommendations!.
Research and
study has now shown that the ideal for these little people is bare feet
as it
allows the muscles to move in an unrestricted way while they learn to
totter. Hard
soled shoes can actually damage soft foot bones.
Isn’t
it
rather interesting to see that people who habitat in countries where
bare feet
are the norm, generally
have more
flexible and stronger feet? And they don’t suffer from things
like flat feet
or pigeon toes (usually caused by wearing shoes of the wrong
type).
Medical
professionals are in agreement that babies should walk on bare feet as
much as
possible however, other opinions are if a baby who is old enough to
walk, he or she is also susceptible to stepping
on something sharp or uncomfortable!
And this is
something we want to avoid! Baby shoes in our society
are necessary,
especially if your house looks a little bit like mine…lego
scattered
everywhere, hard, cold tiles on the floor…(housekeeping is
not my forte!). Your
baby's first pair of shoes should simply protect the feet and to
provide grip
on slippery surfaces.
So, below is
some advice on baby’s first shoes and remember, comfort is
much more important
than style, so forget the knee high boots for your little princess and
combat
boots for the little man, let’s concentrate on protecting
those perfect little
feet…
When Should I Buy The First
Pair Of
Shoes?
If junior is still a bit away from walking, then don’t worry
about buying shoes
at the moment. At this stage, it’s just important to keep his
feet protected by
some nice cozy socks. That way, his feet are protected and they can
grow
stronger before the big “first step” day. Once he
has taken those cute first
steps, however, a very soft pair of shoes should be introduced!
What Kind Of Shoes Should I
Buy?
The best baby
shoe is the one that most closely simulates barefoot conditions and
this is
recommended by most pediatric orthopedists. Your goal should
be so that your
baby shouldn't really be aware of their shoes when they are on. They
should be
soft enough so that your baby has full movement in her feet and for her
to feel
the ground underneath her feet. This is very important as your baby is
still
learning to use their feet and you don't want to do is hinder this!
Which Soft Shoes Are Best?
When my
first born was at this stage, I bought him a pair with soft leather
soles. They
protected his feet and allow him to flex and grip naturally. I thought
they
were fantastic and he never once complained about them
Soft-soled baby
shoes are generally made of leather so that the
baby’s flexibility is
compromised.
You should
look for shoes that have the following features:
· Flexible
sole
· Breathable
· Lightweight
· imitate
bare feet
They should
allow your baby to safely explore the world, not hinder them and your
baby should
act no differently with the shoes on than off.
